Leadership Development

At Colomokee, developing leaders is a high priority.

We aim to model strong Biblical leadership while raising up leaders for the future. Whether you have a desire to serve as a leader at Colomokee — or beyond — we want to help you grow.

“It is while the heart dwells upon His powerful attractions that the hands perform the most acceptable service to His name; nor is there anyone who can minister Christ with unction, freshness, and power to others, if he is not feeding upon Christ in the secret of his own soul.

— C.H. Mackintosh

First Steps. . .

“Forever give your first attention to the freshness, depth, and vitality of your own relationship with Christ.”

Fundamentals.

Forever give your first attention to the freshness, depth, and vitality of your own relationship with Christ. Fiercely guard and cultivate your time alone with God in prayer and the Word. As a lifestyle, saturate yourself with good books and authentically engage in discipleship within the community of believers. Anything less than this is to stray dangerously far from Biblical leadership.

Key Passages.

Invariably, our initial understanding of leadership is clouded and misshapen by worldly thinking, misconceptions, pride and selfish ambition. We must counter this by studying and meditating on the Bible’s key passages on leadership, including (but not only): Psalm 78:70-72, Mark 10:35-45, John 13:3-17, Acts 6:1-7, Acts 20:28, Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Timothy 3:1-13, 1 Timothy 4:6-16, 1 Timothy 5:17-22, 2 Timothy 2:1-26, Titus 1:5-2:15, Hebrews 13:7, James 3:1, James 5:14, 1 Peter 5:1-4.

Biblical Perspective.

The Biblical pattern for church leadership fits hand-in-glove with our God-given mission to make disciples. Historically, however, many churches have overlooked this. Grudem gives an excellent overview of Biblical leadership and Church government in chapter 47 of Systematic Theology. This crucial teaching will help you strengthen your grasp of Biblical leadership and gain perspective on the forms of leadership practiced by different churches (podcast version here).

“When the leader walks into the room, a passion for truth had better enter with him.

— Albert Mohler
