Colomokee Leadership

We are an elder led church.

And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.
— Acts 14:23

At Colomokee we practice the form of church government that is most clearly modeled and taught in the New Testament Scripture. This is sometimes called elder-led congregationalism. In short, this first means that the church is shepherded by a group of Biblically qualified men, or “elders” (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9) who seek to follow the Biblical pattern of church leadership (Acts 20:28, 1 Timothy 5:17, Hebrews 13:7, James 5:14, 1 Peter 5:1-4). Our vocational pastor is considered one of the elders, a “first among equals”, and co-leads the church with our layman elders.

Second, this means we are congregational in the historically Baptist sense. Christ, through the Scripture, is our ultimate governing authority and, by means of and in conjunction with elder leadership, the congregation actively participates in its own governance. We do not treat the church as a pure democracy. Rather, we seek to enlist all our members in our mission and God-given responsibility to keep the church faithful to the Bible. Direct examples of this in the New Testament include Matthew 18:16-17 and Acts 15:22.
